Western Union Registration – Part 1

After writing a quick post about Western Union recently I thought it would be a good time to start a set of simple video tutorials that help people through the registration process on the Western Union website.

Many people find it quite daunting to go onto a website like this and give away their personal information so these video’s will offer a quick explanation of the terminology on their registration process, the thing to look out for as well as thoughts on how to stay safe while you’re filling these details out.

Here’s part one of the tutorial videos:

Western Union Registration – Part 1

You can comment on the video further here or below.

Full transcript of the video is here:

Right. This is a video on how to set up a new account on Western Union.

Right now I’m at WesternUnion.com. And I thought it would be good to just show a nice, easy way to register for an account for them online.

So, right now we’re set to the United States. And you can see over here on your left-hand side, there’s an account log in area, and right at the bottom there, there’s a New User. So, you don’t want to click the log in button or the “forgot password.”

You want to go to the New User link right at the bottom. So, we’ll click on that. And I haven’t done this before, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to go straight through and try it, first off.

So, it’s just taking a second to load. It’s a little bit slow. That’s quite surprising. I’d expect it to be quite fast. So, here goes a set of the information we’re going to have to provide.

So, we start with name. I’ll say “John Smith.”

Billing address. And you’re going to see you’re going to need a billing address, a phone number, an alternate phone number (that’s interesting), and then you’re going to have to enter your security information.

Following that, you’re going to end up with both the security information and your additional info. And that’s going to be the hard part. That’s really going to be the part where you actually need to provide some information for them with your identification actually sent through to them.

So, there’s an interesting question here: “How does Western Union protect my personal information?”. So, we’ll click on that.

So, according to Western Union, your online security is a high priority. They use SSL technology, which means they are encrypting the connection between your computer and the entry and their website.

And they are letting you know that there’s a .. the rest of it is really just the same thing.

OK. I don’t have a U.S. address that I want to enter in here at the moment. So, I will probably complete the rest of this video a little bit later.

That’s Part 1.
